Hello Kiddlings,

Today's post is dedicated to my parents.

They were so lovely today, helping me out with my big move. They had some stat decs made and got all my forms together for tomorrow, the D-Day. We're signing the lease and getting the keys. The baby is moving out of the home - I'm so excited. I've been daydreaming of the decor and the layout of my room and have already decided on the furniture (milk crate bed with a valance, mod podged desk, a vanity set with a mirror with dusty looking paint...).

Anyway the above photo is a beautiful necklace they had made for me while they were overseas. I think it's oh-so-cute. A lovely rabbit for their daughter who was born in the Chinese Year of the Rabbit. :-)

I got home today and wondering how many rolls of film I actually need to get developed.
I believe I have two rolls of b&w film and 3 rolls of colour to take to the photoshop. I have way to many toy cameras, yet they appeal to me so much. Anyway I took this photo in light of the selling of my second Diana Mini. My dad was gorgeous enough to try and surprise me with one (I had just bought one for myself two weeks prior). Such a sweet man.

Morning all,

Today's post is dedicated on my career. I thought it would be fun to take my camera into lab today to take some photos. My lab is quite fortunate, we have new facilities, a large lab and a window to look outside. Unfortunately today was miserable and freezing... not exactly the picturesque ideal with this cold front happening.

Days like these make gloomy days in lab, fluorescent compounds however make me extremely happy!
The vials above contain QUANTUM DOTS. They are different colours as they are different sizes :)

Comment me if you want more of an explanation... I just think they look pretty.

Had the longest day, coming home was a big highlight.

Has anyone else realised that Lover is slowly dying off and Sretsis is taking over?

If you think about the items of clothing are similar priced, if not a little bit cheaper (for Sretsis) and the designs are both really girly yet still has some edge.
In my opinion, Sretsis is doing a lot better because they have the accessories to match... those sunnies, the jewelry. Love love love.

I'm usually not that big of a fan of Prada's stuff but I love Miu Miu's girliness.
The store at Chadstone is so cute and the staff are lovely.
(The fact that they have clothes there is even better, not just staring at pretty handbags)

I woke up this afternoon and got dressed as usual. It wasn't until I left the house and was out and about that I realised that my outfit was a complete repeat from a week ago... Has anyone else experienced this?

It might be because I'm housesitting and only have a handful of my clothes with me but I'm pretty sure I keep repeating favourite outfits for no reason. I remember when I was dating my ex I hadn't worn the same outfit twice for at least a month. How on earth did I manage that?

Like this dress for example... I keep wearing it again and again. (Okay only 3-4 times since I've bought it but since it was a month ago... that's a lot right?)

And this skirt... It's so beautiful but I wore it to my Sportsgirl interview and wore it again at another meeting...

Boo, someone tell me why I hate doubling up. It makes me uneasy knowing I've worn this outfit twice...

Gosh. How do House of Holland always make me want stuff. They had a great collaboration with Karen Walker and their statement tees... then it was their celebrity flower power tees... now it's their stockings that have me going crazy.

Their latest collection reminds of me high school/college/prep school and has a bit of a 80's college feel to it. The colours and the styling of the model's hair remind me of Degrassi Junior High (which I admittedly just finished watching. ps. totally developed a girl crush on Lucy, that 14yo has an amazing sense of style).

I love the stockings in all the pictures posted! They had an amazing pair ages ago with the alphabet on them at asos but I missed out on them/forget about them (and they sold out). :-(

I've always been a fan ever since THAT dress that I love with the huge collar that Peaches and Lily wore. (refresher at this LINK)

Their new stuff that they showed in Feb for Fall 2010 is just amazing and very Melbourne IMO. They cleverly went for a black and gold colourway for the collection and it has paid off. The gold makes the black sparkle… If that's even possible.

Big fan. The playsuit has just amazing tailoring and I love the vintage feel of the light gold blouse. Yummo.
Could never imagine the strapless dress on me but the silouhette is great and shows off the models (probably non-existent) curves. 'Mazing accessorising with the necklace, it really completes the outfit without being too over-the-top.

I picked up my new glasses today. Bvlgari BV3009 ones :) I think they're really cute. Different to my other two frames which are noticeably smaller than these. It's a bit ridiculous having three pairs of glasses but I actually do manage to swap my glasses around with my outfits.

Hey girls,

Anyone else obsessed with wedge boots atm? It's been popular overseas for a while but it's only JUST started happening here in Australia. I picked up my first pair in Japan in Zara and I'm been on the prowl for more ever since. My second pair is from Marcs (of all places? It's a bit prissy for wedge boots right?) and are buckle up ones. They remind me of the surface2air and the chloe sevigny for opening ceremony ones. *lusttt*

Sportsgirl just brought in some camel coloured ones which are practically identical the Zara ones just with a different gum sole. Luckily I'm not a fan of the colour! I am however completely obsessed with these Windsor Smith ones, they kind of look like this:

Wowser, there's a reason I don't leave the house sometimes. It's boiling out.
I went and ran some errands this morning. Last night I had to somehow get up to a 2+ metre high ceiling to try and take down/replace the battery. It kept beeping every minute and was driving me insane, how my friend managed to live with that beeping is beyond me.

The Alpha60 amber balloon tee. It's a bit short to wear as a dress... unless you never lift your arms up like that Rexona ad they had on tv once...

I think I have around 6 pairs of lace ups now... good one, addict.
I managed to pick these up from Emil's Shoe Repairs on Chapel St. He has an amazing collection of both mens and womens vintage shoes and he resoles them before he sells them again. They're all in great condition and he's lovely to chat to.

I might get my poor Indiana by Frieda t-bars fixed by him sometime this week...

I love love love the Queen Victoria night market. Mainly for the atmosphere but also because of the booze. I went recently and found a vintage reseller who bought stock around the world and sold it at the markets. A bit pricey in my opinion but I guess it's vintage and not op-shop.

I managed to find this bewwwwty at the sale, it was a bit long and the sleeves were uneven (and still are) but I've fixed it up a bit:

So Apple have once again launched something revolutionary. And yes, I actually do believe this is innovative. Yes e-books such as the Amazon Kindle have been around for a while, but this takes things to another level. It's not exactly a tablet computer, it's not just a e-book, it's not just a "computer". I find it captivating.

Right before the iPad was released I was very close to buying a Kindle but now I'm glad I didn't. Let's break it down. The Kindle DX is a 9.7" screen similar to the iPad, if you're looking for a e-book only, definitely go for the Kindle. It's $489 USD. But for $10 more, I can get a computer not just an e-book with the same screen size. I was mainly looking to get something that I can read pdf's off, with the massive number of journals I read a year this would be perfect for me. Apple technology means I can flick and zoom the pages of my papers.

I'm sold....

What are you guys thinking?

Turbans have been quintessentially 20's for ages.

I first remember seeing one (recently) on Gilmore Girls' where Emily's tailor/dresser. The next time I saw it and really wanted one was watching Project Runway Australia Season 1. Nothing really beats the first one, we had amazing Melburnians representing us so well... Lui Hon and Petrova Hammond. (Yes Helen Manuell is another Melburnian but her behaviour on the show left little to be desired imo.)

I'll try not to let this become a rave about PR season 1 but I absolutely adored Leigh Buchanan's final collection which reminded me of royalty, the zen master Lui for his simplistic cuts (does anyone else remember the wedding dress episode?) and Petrova's ability to turn one item into twenty outfits (I love love love complexgeometries for this same reason)

Anyway more to the point of the post, as inspired by Petrova... and helped by the donation of A, I have my own black turban to play around with. It really doesn't work with my blunt fringe but if I sweep it to a side fringe it looks a lot better. Earlier OOTD's have featured the turban but I stuck my owl brooch on it and it feels brand new again:

As a Chinese Australian I feel like I do not belong whatsoever in the country that I was born in and hoped so much to fit into. I started this blog in Shanghai during my world trip and was deeply disappointed at the isolation I felt in my city of birth... a city that is forever growing economically and constantly developing into one that is more Western.

I truly hope one day my birth country and I will get along...

Thanks guys, after a long hiatus/neglect of this blog I was surprised to find some lovely comments left by some readers.
I thought people stopped reading this a long time ago, it's great to hear that some of you actually like what I wear.

I do feel I dress slightly left of center especially now while I'm working in retail and feeling very uninspired. I style myself completely differently to the girls at work and for the first time I've felt a little self-conscious about my choices.

I will post up soon, perhaps even outfits that I wear to work, which I find really boring. Right now work outfits are consuming me. argh

Nude Coloured Netted Booties!

I was completely inspired by the Nicola Finetti show where his models came out with black and nude netted booties. They were amazing as were the dresses as per usual. I've always been a fan of his, my first dress in Year 11 was a nf by Nicola Finetti one :)

I was so ecstatic when I saw these in Zomp. I went in there on a whim, I had been in there the week before and haven't really liked it as the prices are a bit exxy and I've always preferred vintage shoes and shoes from overseas.

I think these are amazing! Found these at Shag down degraves. I'm pretty sure they won't fit me, they look around an 8-9. For 289 they're more worth the price than the dotti and siren ysl cage copies. And these are vintage.... Swoon!

MSFW: Show 2 Review

Sorry for the lack of pictures, I'll be uploading next week when I get home!
This show was really fun, albeit a little short to be honest.
I wanted it to go on forever. The designers are all amazing and they had some great things for the summer coming up.

Dhini started off with her marching soldier collection. It was definitely the most cohesive collection I saw yet each piece was unique and very wearable. She has some amazing draped harem pants and her jackets were beyond amazing. She definitely deserved the loud round of applauses as the last model walked off the runway.

Ginger & Smart did an amazing pale pink high waisted skirt. Kirrily Johnston wowed all with her gorgeous clock belt (definitely want want want this). Nicola Finetti, genius that he is, had a great colour palette of nudes and black and the netted booties he had were amazing!! (wow I overuse this word). The best dress was a strapless with a flowing train! Totally beautiful. The prints that LIFEWithBIRD used were amazing, great matierals... the best item were a spiral pair of colourful leggings... will definitely try and get my hands on these. (I'll be honest and say that Gorman left me underwhelmed, as per usual)

MSFW: Show 1 Review

So after a hectic day of work, tutoring and finding a park in the city, I finally made it to the show. My friends dad was fortunate enough to be given some VIP tickets so we sat front row. After a quick tour around the Melbourne Town Hall chambers (and where Robert Doyle's office is) we sat ready and waiting for the show to start.

Akira came on first and had an amazing colour palette. Nudes, blood orange/orange red and yellow. The dresses were simple but exquisite and the shoes! The poor poor models, they reminded me of the traditional shoes geishas wear mixed with the more modern concept of espadrilles/wedges. To top it off the shoes were fabric matched to the dresses.... Amazing!

Another designer that completely wowed me was Materialbyproduct. Their runway was amazing... They had the dressers come down to the runway and the models came out in nude underwear and a fabulous collar piece (each model's was unique). (on a side note all the people in the front row actually got one of these limited edition, out of 200, collars.) The collection looked so simple, lots of draping, holes/slits to play around with. Definitely one of the best runways I've seen!

Which shows are you going to see?
Amanda and I are heading to the Friday show. My friend whose dad is a councilor got us front row tickets to the Tuesday and Wednesday show :) It's all very exciting!
Amanda and I went last year to the same show last year and it was super fun, can't wait to do it again.

SHOW 1 - Akira, Aurelio Costarella, Christine, Easton Pearson, Gwendolynne, MATERIALBYPRODUCT. (Not that impressed with the designers in terms of it being my style but I think it would be fun anyway)

Didn't really start making it til the afternoon but hey... it didn't take TOO long... right?
It's a little big at the shoulders/back but I didn't use a pattern, I just sew sew sewed... surprised how well it turned out.

Cheap to make too :)
- white grosgrain ribbon $4 for 5 metres
- navy cotton poplin for $2 a metre
- old snap closures I found in mum's old sewing kit

Went for lunch with my dad who is so funny and then went to Spotlight and Lincraft so I can do some sewing today yay!

These shoes are from Asos. Scooter actually have them in stock at the moment as part of their new collection... selling for a ridiculous 120 AUD. I'm so glad I picked up the white ones for only 7 pounds and the black ones for 12 pounds. Asos forever. For those who want them: LINK

Don't get sucked in by paying 120 for a pair of shoes you can get for much much cheaper. They're exactly the same, same manufacturer I bet.

Came two parcels today :)
My grey Cheap Monday jeans I won off ebay for a measly 30.
They must have been altered as they're much shorter than all my other pairs. I can't fold them up, not a biggy for a shortie like me but if someone taller than me won them they would not have been happy lassies... I'm pretty sure the seller didn't mention they'd be altered.

The second parcel was from Asos....

Got these in a UK size 4. Perfect fit for my small 6.5 AU sized feet :)

Last item isn't a recent purchase. They're a pair of amazing shoes I picked up just outside of Shanghai in Ningbo. For a bargain $20 I didn't even have to bargain for them that day. They're a size 36... I can fit into 36's normally but these are a little squeeze. I've been wearing bed socks all day trying to stretch them out. (It's working!!)
